Last year my daughter served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua, and part of her heart is still there. To the gracious people of Nicaragua who embraced her as part of your family, I offer my sincere gratitude, and I pray for justice in your nation and for all God’s people.

O God, Bless this food we are about to receive. Give bread to those who hunger, and give hunger for justice to us who have bread.
“Nicaraguan Prayer” from Raising Children to Love Their Neighbors by Carolyn Brown. Abingdon Press, 2008.
Now that same daughter is preparing to travel to her new assignment as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic, and we will miss her dearly.
During the next two years she will enrich the lives of children and communities as a Spanish literacy promoter. She will undoubtedly experience adversity, discouragement, joy, and moments that will change her for a lifetime. She will make a difference in the hearts of the people she meets. She will serve with compassion and humility, cultivate relationships, and learn that she is more adaptable and resilient than she even realized. I know that she has the faith and courage to make her way in this new place.
God be with you, darling daughter. And may we be together again soon.

Cuando cruces las aguas, yo estaré contigo.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
