Fun and (nearly) free: Summer bike wash

Want something cool to do with children when the temperature rises? Kiddie pools and lawn sprinklers are great, but you can turn water play into a fun event with a bike wash.

Invite children to bring their bikes, trikes, wagons, or any washable toys to your driveway and give them a good cleaning! It’s fun when friends work together, and a water hose in the summer heat is always a welcome diversion.

Ask the children to wear swimsuits and water shoes. Add a garden hose, buckets, rags, sponges, brushes… and expect lots of silly fun. Everything will get washed, rinsed, ridden, and rewashed several times as the kids play in the suds and water.

Just double-check that your area doesn’t have water restrictions due to drought, and use a diluted, non-toxic, biodegradable soap like Sierra Dawn Campsuds or Seventh Generation Free & Clear Natural Dish Soap.

You can top off the day by serving Popsicles outside. Clean up will be easy!

“If you never did you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.”
